Acute and Chronic Disease

Appropriate Antibiotic Use: This program supports initiatives to increase awareness of appropriate antibiotic use, both to increase awareness of antibiotic resistance and to decrease antibiotic prescription use for acute upper respiratory infections.

Immunization: This program provides comprehensive immunization services to all residents of Marion County.

Public Health Coordinator: Funds support the position of a local public health coordinator at Marion County Health Department (MCHD) to participate in the development, testing, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of the Heath Alert Network (HAN) in collaboration with the Indiana State Department of Health.

Refugee Health: This program employs health advocates to provide interpretation services to refugees and to arrange for their health care.

Newborn Sickle Cell: This program provides sickle cell education, early detection, counseling, support groups, and follow-up of newborns identified with abnormal hemoglobin.

Tobacco Control: This program provides comprehensive tobacco use, prevention, education, and cessation services at area health centers and Wishard Hospital. This program also provides education to promote and support smoke-free workplace policies.

Tuberculosis (TB): This program provides outreach to TB risk groups, monitoring of patient therapy and tests, and counseling to patients.
