Adolescent Victims of Incest and Sexual Abuse Support/Therapy Group

The number of adolescents experiencing sexual abuse and incest is staggering. Many adolescents will not tell anyone about the abuse. They do not tell for many reasons. Some victims believe that the abuse is at least partly their fault. Other victims are being threatened with harsh repercussions by the offender if they tell. And many more of the victims simply want to protect loved ones. An inappropriate response to a disclosure can be more harmful or damaging than the sexual abuse.

It is very important for adolescents to have an opportunity to explore the guilt and shame that result from sexual abuse. They need to be educated and empowered to set comfortable and appropriate boundaries with others. Early intervention can help reduce the risk that these adolescents will be revictimized in the future and help to facilitate powerful healing.

This group is held every Wednesday evening from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. for adolescents ages 11 to 15.
