General Information

The Legacy House is dedicated to serving the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of adults and children who have been affected by violence. The Legacy House promotes healing through intervention, support and understanding.

Trying to access necessary services at several different locations can be overwhelming -- particularly when a person is in crisis. For many victims, the healing process is multi-dimensional as well as long term. Legacy House provides "one-stop assistance" for victims of violent crimes. Services are geared towards victims of all types of violence, including survivors of violent death victims, rape, stalking, domestic violence, child sexual/physical abuse and neglect, survivors of drunk driving accidents, robbery, burglary and assault. Services are provided to both the primary victim (the person whom the crime is committed against) and secondary victims (witnesses, family members, friends, jurors, etc.).

Along with support groups provided by our collaborative partners, Legacy House staff will provide crisis intervention, counseling, victim advocacy, community education, safety planning, assistance in securing emergency shelter, opportunities for volunteer/mentoring programs, assistance in applying for benefits from the Violent Crime Compensation Fund, assistance in filing for Temporary Emergency Protective Orders, coordinating Restorative Justice conferences and housing a crisis response team available for the community. Our collaborative partners include Breaking Free, the Marion County Health Department, Purdue Cooperative Extension Service, and Center for Hope - Wishard Health Services.
