What We Do

Finally, an open door policy that's really opening doors.

It sounds simple, doesn't it? But that's the essence of our organization. In fact, our commitment to healing takes into account the whole person. From crisis intervention and victim advocacy to peer counseling and mentor programs, we're giving families hope for tomorrow. Conditions or situations that many people take for granted become obstacles for many victims of violence -- learning to trust themselves and others again, having the courage to step out of their homes to go to work, run errands, visit friends and family, or engage in healthy relationships. These are skills that many victims have been deprived from learning their entire lives or lost as a result of a violent crime committed against them.

But there is hope and it starts with you.

As a community, we need to become more aware of the impact violence has on our families. It's pervasive. It's everywhere. Violence doesn't have a zip code. But there is hope. Everybody can do something. It's as simple as taking the time to ask someone, "Do you need help? Are you okay?" Knowing what to say can be as simple as saying, "I don't know what to say." People will remember who asks and who doesn't. They know who acknowledges their pain. It's another way to be present in the lives of people. Truly present. No one deserves to be alone. At least, not in our community. Not in our neighborhood.
