Marion County Health Department Seasonal Flu Vaccine Clinics Begin October 2

The Marion County Health Department will hold 12 seasonal flu vaccine clinics beginning Friday, October 2 and continuing through Monday, October 19.

The clinics will offer the seasonal flu vaccine, pneumonia and tetanus shots.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Indiana State Department of Health and the Marion County Health Department are encouraging children and adults to get a seasonal flu vaccine this year.

"We are asking our residents, including children, to get a flu vaccine this year. This helps protect you, your family, co-workers and others you interact with. The seasonal flu shot will help lower your risk of the flu and will mean milder symptoms if you do get the seasonal flu," said Virginia A. Caine, M.D., director, Marion County Health Department.

These clinics will not offer vaccine for the H1N1 flu, and the vaccinations at these clinics will not prevent the H1N1 flu virus.

Children under age 2 can receive the vaccine free of charge.

The flu or flu mist vaccine fee for those ages 2 through 18 is $10. Those 19 and older will be charged $15. Pneumonia vaccines are $40 and tetanus vaccine is $20. Medicare and Medicaid will be accepted.
