Indiana To Observe National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day

INDIANAPOLIS - Blacks are disproportionately affected by all stages of HIV and AIDS, and it is slowly becoming an epidemic within the community, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Feb. 7 is National Black HIV and AIDS Awareness Day, and Indiana will take full advantage by educating Hoosiers and promoting healthy lifestyles. Keeping with the 2010 theme, "10 Years of Building Community Awareness," Indianapolis will host a citywide event.

Hosted by: First Lady Kris Ray of WTLC-FM, 106.7

The event is free, open to the public, and will provide free confidential testing as well as an opportunity for the community to be involved in an interactive forum.

Collaborative partners include: Brothers United, Forest Manor Multi-Service Center, Gilead Sciences, Indiana State Department of Health, Indianapolis Urban League, Marion County Health Department and Radio-One.
