Services
For 15-20 weekdays throughout the summer months (June-July), children ages 2-17 years, with parental consent,
are transported from the site of their participating organization to a centrally located assessment site. From this site, approximately 40
medical and dental professional volunteers and non-medical volunteers conduct health assessments and provide
health education.
Physical Examination
A doctor or nurse practitioner conducts a modified physical examination of the child's ears, skin, lungs and back. The child's
height, weight, blood pressure and body mass index are also determined. Recommendations for further evaluation are made when
any abnormalities are found.
Audiologic Assessment
An audiologist and trained volunteers conduct a two-part screening for hearing which includes a tympanogram and pure tone test.
Referrals are made when necessary.
Oral Health Screening
A dentist or dental hygienist completes an oral screening examination to detect unmet dental needs. Referrals for treatment
are based upon detecting those needs.
